I really cannot believe I am writing this, but after more than 10 years as the publisher of Macaroni Kid Hempstead-Uniondale-Garden City, the time has come for me to say Good-Bye. I started with Macaroni Kid back in September of 2010 when it was originally owned by Joyce Schulman and Eric Cohen, a wonderful married couple who resided on the East end of Long Island. Their idea blossomed into a country wide business with more than 500 different sites and publishers. I have truly enjoyed bringing you all the local events for your families during this time. My own two boys, who are now almost 17 & 14 have grown up with and enjoyed Macaroni Kid as much as I have.
Unfortunately, during the middle of the quarantine, Joyce and Eric made the decision to sell their Macaroni Kid empire to CertifiKid which is a deals site out of Maryland. In the beginning everything stayed the same and it was business as usual, (well as close to usual as could be with the quarantine and basic shut down of everything). However, in January, they sent us a new contract to sign. We were given a month to consider it and there are a lot of points in it that just don't sit well with a lot of us publishers.
Between the continued quarantine, with no real events in sight and advertisers not having money for advertising and all the changes in the new contract, I feel I have no choice but to say Good-Bye. I had made a last minute effort to reach out to HQ for clarification and guidance on some of the points in the contract. My effort went unanswered and so I cannot in good faith sign the contract. Therefore, I am going to be locked out of this site and email. But I have set up a page so you can continue to reach me at www.adventuresonlongisland.com and I can be reached at jennifer@adventuresonlongisland.com. I can be found on Instagram (@adventuresonlongisland) and Facebook too. Come say hi and share some of your adventures on this wonderful island!
