National Chocolate Day-July 7th

Chocolate is a Vegetable?!

June 30, 2011
July 7th is National Chocolate Day!  Chocolate comes from cacao beans; beans are a vegetable. Sugar comes from either sugar cane or sugar beets, both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Therefore, chocolate is a vegetable!

Do we really need to explain to you how to celebrate this day? Probably not, but what we can explain is how satisfy that urge for something sweet by choosing the right chocolate.

Choose Wisely:
  • If the first ingredient is sugar or corn syrup, put it down.
  • If any ingredient is corn syrup, put it down.
  • If any ingredient reads “flavors” or “artificial flavors”, put it down.
  • If the label reads less than  65% cocoa content, put it down.
  • If it has more than 6 or 7 ingredients, put it down.
  • Not organic? Put it down.
  • Does the label read raw, unprocessed or cold pressed chocolate which has not been heat treated and thus has more nutrients? PICK IT UP AND TAKE A BITE!
